Black & White Harley

by Anthony Hereld on July 28, 2010

Harley Davidson

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again:  there’s just something special about black and white photography.  It’s classic and timeless.  The above shot could have been taken in the 1960′s or yesterday.

B&W conversion has become part of my normal workflow.  I almost always check to see if a photo looks as good or better in black and white while post processing.  Usually it does.  This one was no exception.

I’m starting to be more patient with my editing.  I have a nasty habit of breezing through the process simply because I have an image in my head and often settle for “close enough” and forget about the small details that make a good photograph great.

From now on, I’m going to just let new photos stew for a day or so, and then go back and take a second look to make sure I’ve captured the look I was going for.  Easier said than done, I know.

EXIF Data

I’m sort of limited in my traveling abilities this week, so I stayed local.  This photo was taken with a Nikon D90 and a 50mm f/1.8D prime lens.

I spent some time downtown yesterday afternoon experimenting with the depth-of-field capabilities of this lens and was pleasantly surprised at the nice bokeh it produced here.

On a more personal note, this photograph is one of my favorites so far.
