Yours truly!
I entered this image at Nikonites, for their first ever photo contest. The contest theme was “hot”, so I thought this seemed appropriate.
The above photograph is of my daughter, taken at the Ohio State Fair this year. Temperatures rose into the upper 90′s, making it a very hot and humid day. This was one of several Cool Zones set up to help patrons fight the heat.
‘Shopped
As with just about all of my photos, this image has seen some editing in Photoshop. A couple of high pass filters were used with different blending techniques to bring out the detail in the spray of water coming from the fan and also to add a degree of grittiness to the scene to amp up the hot factor.
There is an ongoing debate on the value of edited photos versus those straight out of the camera. I can say with 95% certainty that the editing that was done helped turn this into a contest winner.
I’d like to thank the Academy…
It’s always cool to win something, but it holds special meaning when the votes are cast by your peers. It’s great to be recognized by those who share the same passion.
There were a lot of great photographs in this competition, including many that were much better than mine. Thanks to all who participated in the voting process. Community involvement like this will help Nikonites grow into a great place to be.
Thanks also to the site admin for putting up such great prizes! A $100 gift card to B&H Photo (one of the best photog stores on the net) will really come in handy. I’ll put it to good use!
I’m thinking a down payment on a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro lens might be in order.
